BMC has issued a voluntary product recall of select BMC Teammachine SLR01 road bicycles and framesets because their carbon for steerers can can crack and break while in use, causing a rider to lose control and fall. BMC has received four reports of breakage and two reports of injuries related to this issue.

The recall is specifically for BMC Teammachine SLR01 DISC (disc brake) versions, model years 2018 and 2019; 2020 bikes are not affected. The recalled bikes and framesets were sold in red, green, grey, graphite, blue and aqua green. BMC is printed on the downtube. Affected models contain serial numbers starting with 8R17 and 8R18, followed by one letter and a four-digit code. The serial numbers are printed on the underside of the bottom bracket of the bicycle. Only bicycles and framesets with a FK6 fork require a replacement fork. Forks of type FK6N are not affected.
