FeaturesCommuter 1's hi-tensile steel frame, while heavier than more expensive aluminum, rides smoother & more comfortably than aluminum thanks to the natural shock damping qualities of steel. The Commuter frame features formed top and down tubes for enhanced steering control and good looks. A new revolutionary feature to the Commuter line is the SlidePad braking system. SlidePad is a new single lever braking technology that reduces the risk of front wheel lock up which increases safety and is easy to use. SlidePad uses the momentum of the rear wheel to actively modulate the front brake, enabling smooth, controlled stopping power. Large diameter 700c road bike wheels roll faster & more predictably at speed, and roll over bumps & potholes more comfortably than smaller diameter 26" wheels. We've thoughtfully included a rear carrier, reflector and strap to make local commutes with office gear a snap. Rear carrier is rated to carry 10kgs/22lbs. Our radius bend, tapered unicrown fork is lighter than a suspension fork, improving pedaling performance and maneuverability. The svelte ARC handlebar with 27 degree back-sweep, puts hands & wrists in a comfortable, natural position. Our dual-density grips deliver comfort and a secure non-slip steering interface between rider and handlebar. A long quilled, high rise stem offers a comfortable, upright ride position that's easy on neck & wrists. CST's Marathon/Tour tires offer a smooth center tread for low rolling resistance with side tread that's a bit more aggressive for secure cornering. These 700 x 32c tires hold more air volume & are more comfortable to ride than narrower 23 - 28C road tires. Shimano's Altus 7-speed Mega-Range drivetrain with Revo-Shift twist shifters offers wide-range gearing and is intuitively easy to shift. A near all-alloy parts list -- alloy micro-adjust seat post, alloy crank, alloy seat post clamp, alloy hubs, alloy rims, alloy brakes & levers -- reduces weight, adds value and is rust-proof. TPE slip-resistant inserts on the Commuter's pedals damp road vibration and provide a more secure connection between foot and pedal. Our polycarbonate fenders are exceptionally lightweight and protect both rider and bike from rain water sloughing off spinning wheels. Our micro-bell doesn't takes up a lot of space on the handlebars, but for such a small bell has a surprisingly large tone -- an asset in pedestrian and cycling rich areas.
