OK its not a specialist downhiller and it doesn't have rear suspension but it constantly amazes me how well it behaves in every scenario and its fast too. So if you like going up hills as well as down, enjoy technical sections, some light jumps, give this a try.
I have owned a custom Giant AC, a Giant Reign and a several hard-tails, (this is my second Avanti) and this bike is the best all-rounder by far.
It has clearly been well thought out at the design stage and has good quality components where you need them...everywhere. Sure there is more expensive stuff around, but everything in this package just performs well.
If you want a reliable, do-it-all machine that makes you look good in any setting for a reasonable cost, I don't think you will get much better than this.
