Review

The Speed Concept 7.0 is Trek's entry point for a triathlon or time trial rider looking for the latest technology at a price that won't require selling off the wife and kids. This is the new 2014 model and features design and technology that put the SC bikes at the forefront of the push for more advanced aerodynamics.

The Speed Concept bikes feature several design aspects that make it compatible with the different rules found in both road time trials and triathlons. Two of these features are an interchangeable fork and the "speed fin". Both of which are designed to make the aerodynamics on this bike as close to optimal as possible without stepping into illegality.

The Speed Concept 7.0 is the entry level model and as such uses a reliable Shimano drivetrain with a mix of Tiagra, 105 and other components. These work well and keep costs down. Most of the other components are supplied in-house by Bontrager, including the amazing invisible brakes. These are fitted into the frame reducing aerodynamic drag even further. The bike also uses the Bontrager Speed Storage system: a collection of aerodynamic storage containers perfectly integrated into the frame itself. Perfect for training or long distance events like an Ironman.

Overall this is an impressive bike. It is perfect for an amateur racer who still wants cutting edge aero technology but is riding on more of a budget. Thinking of attempting a triathlon or even an Ironman? Definitely check out the Speed Concept 7.0.

Details

The Trek Speed Concept 7.0 offers unrivaled performance for the discerning triathlete or time-trial specialist, for a price that doesn't require a second mortgage. This bike offers advanced carbon construction and radical airfoil shaping to slice through the wind at any angle. Shimano's Dura Ace and workhorse 105 components make up the drivetrain, and Bontrager's integrated cockpit parts and brakes take care of the rest. Wheels made from Bontrager parts are the finishing touch here.
