The 7500 will put you in more of an upright position, which will be comfortable on weekend rides.
The 7500 still has the same wheel diameter of the FX bikes though, so commuting on it would be fine.
The 7500 is more of a "comfortable" bike for leisurely rides. While the FX line does well for commuting and fitness type rides, but it has a longer top tube, which will stretch out your upper body.
The 7500 is extrememly comfortable for longer rides.
This is my third Trek one strictly mountain and one strictly road (forth if you include my Gary Fisher) and I really have enjoyed this bike quite a bit!!
If you are looking for something under $1000 this is where I would start. from this point you really can't go wrong based on what you need in your bike. Bottom line there are plenty of great things to say about this bike, just jump on and take a test ride. see what you think.
