IMP Carbon Mainframe: Our engineers have developed IMP™, the newest technology applied to carbon production. Our proprietary process allows for lighter construction by removing 11% of the material from the headtube intersection while increasing strength by utilizing high modulus stressed fibers for more precise fiber placement in critical areas. To compliment the IMP™ process, our frames benefit from our Naked External Tubeset™, which eliminates the cosmetic carbon layer to shave precious grams. Both HMX and HMF fibers are used in our carbon frames ensuring the utmost durability, security, and longevity for the frame.
SDS Shock Damping System: SDS minimizes high frequency vibration from the road, enabling a damping effect without losing performance. SCOTT has engineered a balance of vertical compliance (a measure of how smoothly a bike rides) and lateral stiffness (associated with responsiveness during sprinting, acceleration, and climbing) in both the rear triangle and the fork. By maximizing vertical compliance, SDS cancels road vibrations, increasing rider confidence, stability and comfort. Found on CR1 and Scale.
IDS SL Dropout System: Interchangeable and lightweight, the IDS-SL dropout system works with 142x12mm, 135x12mm and 135x5mm QR rear axle standards. Shred the turns more aggressively and with enhanced control, thanks to a laterally stiff rear end.
Tapered Headtube: The Spark features a tapered head tube for increased stiffness, safety, confidence, and control.
27.5” Wheels: When discussing the pros and cons of the big wheeled bikes, shorter riders find themselves in an ambivalent situation. They want to benefit from the 29” wheels, but suffer from the negative effects when fit is considered. Additionally, the increase in rotational weight challenges many lower watt producing riders, so the performance gains are negated when the rider cannot accelerate the wheel system as quickly. The solution for many riders is 27,5”. The new wheelsize standard combines the best of both worlds, 29” and 26”.

27.5” Platform: Newer frame layouts designed to maximize the inherent benefits of 27.5-inch wheels, which combine the speed and stability of 29-inch wheels with the agility and acceleration of classic 26-inch mountain-bike wheels. 27.5" wheels allow a clearly different riding feel than 26" or 29" frames and bikes. This platform blends the features into an true all around Mountain Bike that satisfies the needs of many different riders. It has some of the rolling efficiency of 29ers, but coupled with the more robust and stiff feel of 26" wheels.

Marin Race Geometry: Frame layouts optimized for competition and hard efforts, placing the rider in the most efficient position for pedaling and steering inputs. Longer effective top tube and shorter chainstay lengths put you in a more stretched out pedaling position, and keep the rear wheel closer to your center of gravity for sharper handling.

Tapered Head Tube: As bicycle forks evolved, the diameter of the "steerer tube" of a fork, and the "head tube" of the frame (which houses the steerer tube and headset) have steadily increased. Years ago, forks were fairly standard at a 1" steerer diameter. This increase to 1-1/8" (also known as OS) in the 90's, and even 1-1/4" and 1.5" sizes became some what common. In particular, 1.5" was used on Freeride or downhill frames due to the inherent increase in strength that comes from the larger diameter. But there were some problems, 1.5" forks required very large head tubes, and were heavy. As the sizes evolved, it was realized that using a tapered steerer tube would offer up the best of both worlds. Marin uses tapered forks that have a 1.5" lower diameter, but then taper to a 1-1/8" upper diameter. This reduces weight, but keeps very high strength where it's needed, at the base of the steerer tube, where it meets the fork crown. This type of tapered fork greatly increases stiffness and strength, while keeping weight to an absolute minimum. Unlike many other companies, if a Marin bike has a tapered head tube, it also has a tapered fork, to take maximum advantage of the technology.

T3 Carbon: Carbon frames are generally manufactured as a "monocoque" structure. This means the entire frame, or significant parts anyway (front triangle, or rear triangle) are molded as a single piece. The bladders that are used to pressurize the frame during molding are difficult to control and may result in additional resin left inside the frame. While this can ensure good continuity of the carbon fibers through that part of the mold, all monocoque frames still require that frame parts be glued together. Marin employs this manufacturing technique where it makes sense, but in the road category, we primarily use T3 construction, also know as "tube to tube". In this technology, each frame tube is individually molded, which allows us to precisely control the wall thickness of each tube, resulting in ride tuning perfection. Then, each tube is laid into a fixture that positions them to precisely the angles required for that frame, where they are then bonded into place, and reinforced with an additional lay up of carbon, before going into the heating ovens. This extra care results in absolute minimum weight, perfected ride feel, and a bike that you won't want to climb off of.

142mm Through-Axle: Rear-hub axle standard featuring a 12mm-thick through-axle that, while stronger and stiffer than a standard quick-release, still allows for easy removal of the rear wheel. The 142mm standard maintains the standard 135mm chainline, but adds a 3.5mm shoulder to each side of the rear hub. This shoulder shares the load of the rear wheel with the rear 12mm axle, rather than placing the full load of the rider on the axle alone.
