The 2015 Surly Moonlander is a fat bike. The Moonlander might be the fat bike; glorious, tempting to the most staid, with Surly's traditional combination of very clean builds and total excess. Someone, somewhere, possibly the far reaches of Alaska, looks at the Moonlander and thinks, oh good, just what I need for my commute. The rest of us think, how much trouble can I get in aboard that. Surly has used up all the clearance there is in the rear triangle, with either Bud or Lou, the ginormous 4.8" rear tread, and left just a skosh in the front, with Lou or Bud.
Kit is pretty much all perfectly chosen. Brakes from Avid, cable-actuated hydraulic BB7s, have enough stopping power to bring even Bud and Lou to a halt. The bar is a Salsa ProMoto, a ridiculous 750mm wide on the larger sizes. And the rims are, of course, Surly's own Clown Shoes.
A great fat bike.
