Review
The X-Flow was released last year to some mixed reviews, but there are always going to be teething problems when a new platform is introduced to the market. For 2013, Lapierre has tweaked the cockpit with a longer top tube, shorter stem and wider bars. There is also a new front end with a 130mm fork. Any concerns about the imbalance between the solid rear end and a nervous, soft front have been rectified.
The new bike still utilizes the Penbox system of linkages designed for super efficient pedaling characteristics and it really works. There aren't many bikes of this travel to pedal so well over rocks and roots. The downfall is that it adds weight and complexity, and perhaps is better suited to an all-mountain or freeride platform which aren't so concerned with gram counting. It's a tough call.
The 412 benefits from a great kit-out with Shimano XT drivetrain, Fox up front and the reliable Mavic Crossride wheels. The Mavic hoops are a tad heavy but with the 15mm thru axle keep the front end tracking well. Finishing off is by some good quality respectable kit from SDG, Easton and FSA.
The X-Flow 412 takes this relatively new platform to the next level and is a good choice for weekend trail riders. Decent travel is mated to efficient pedaling...if that's your thing this bike is a winner.
The Lapierre X-Flow 412 combines both comfort and performance to bring you the ultimate trail package.
