Lazer, Genesis

Helmets have become an area of much discussion in recent times. To wear or not to wear? Personally I believe in keeping my head as safe as possible so I never leave home without one. Helmets also fall into the personal category for fit and comfort. Everyone’s head is shaped differently so keep in mind when we review helmets it is a personal opinion on the fitting and you should always try one on before committing to purchase.

First Impressions:

Sleek and very stylish looks, which when you are designing a helmet to suit the Roadie market these key aesthetic qualities are very important. This model from Belgium helmet manufacturer Lazer ticks the look box, which will see it appeal to its intended market.

History Lesson:

Lazer has been building helmets since 1919. Roger Lacroix the brands’ founder started off by creating leather models for motorcyclists. It wasn’t until 1987 that the Bicycle helmet department was established.

Tech Head:

19 vents keeping the air flowing through to keep your noggin cool in the warmer months.

Weight 280g (M)

Fit System: Rollsys® Retention System, Rollsys® is Dutch for, “like glue to head.” Most helmet manufacturers have their own version of the Fit System. I personally like the option Lazer provides, as it is simplistic to operate. Located on the top of the helmet it turns either one way or other to adjust tension to ensure a snug fit. The roller adjustment wheel resides along the back top of the helmet and pulls a cable that’s connected to a floating band along the front. This creates not only the rear retention, but a front piece as well.

In-Mold construction is more of the norm these days with mid to high-end helmets.

Sizing range M-L, now I have a pretty big head so I was a little concerned that the L would actually fit. It does and sits quite nicely too, not making me look like I have a big egghead, well not anymore than normal.

While it can no longer boast to being the lightest helmet on the market, the Genesis manages to provide some very effective vents and interior channels into what is really a low-profile helmet.

Final Thoughts:

Like it, will buy it, will look good wearing it and will ride faster! Not much more you can want from a helmet no is there?
