World Bicycle Relief is a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to making bicycles available where they will benefit the recipient in practical ways, from transportation for medical care providers to dairy haulage to access to jobs. The nonprofit has provided hundreds of thousands of bikes to people on several continents, helping local economies and boosting lifestyles.

Founded in 2005 by SRAM's F.K. Day after a visit to Sri Lanka following the December 2004 tsunami, WBR collects donations from people around the world to make bicycles and the necessary infrastructure of tools and skilled mechanics available where they're needed most.

WBR designs its own bicycle, the Buffalo, manufactured at locations in Africa. Hundreds of mechanics have been trained to support the Buffalo; spare part stockpiles are increasing; the Buffalo is becoming prevalent across sub-Saharan Africa.

World Bicycle Relief is doing a good thing. If you are in a position to help out, it's a great way to make a difference.
