2014 Specialized Enduro Comp 29 Review

The Enduro 29 is redefining what is possible with a 29er wheel platform. The frame boasts 155mm of juicy travel and a 160mm fork which is a big hint to what this bike truly excels at: going downhill.

This is the alloy version and comes in at a price right on the money for most enthusiast mountain bikers. The geometry is the same as the more expensive (and lighter) carbon models which is a good thing as the handling across the range is exceptional. Specialized have managed to squeeze in a 16.9" chainstay which is quite a feat, giving the Enduro a nice tight rear end which says a lot about this bike's all-round capabilities.

Its forte is descending but with the shock engaged in pedal platform mode it is also a fairly capable climber, although the weight of the alloy frame is noticeable. Components are on the money at this level and the SRAM drivetrain is solid and perfectly suited to the platform.

The only other component oddity is the lack of a dropper seatpost as standard kit. The frame has internal routing for a Command Post, but I suppose costs must be cut somewhere and you could always upgrade quite easily.

Overall I recommend this bike to the ride-everywhere crowd who want a super capable downhill machine, yet with the ability to also climb to the trail-head. Another winner from Specialized.
