Review

For an entry level mountain bike, this Rocky Mountain is all sorts of awesome. Decent suspension, good components and a geometry designed specifically for cross country riding. It's winning all over for this trail steed.

Rocky Mountain are based in the heart of mountain biking worldwide - Canada! A perfect testing ground for their rigs. This bike features an all alloy frameset, with solid reinforcement without adding extra weight. The frame is hydroformed, lending itself to sexy lines and a professional finish on the frame shaping.

It's good to see the bike covered in quality Shimano components, from the cassette through to the handlebar mounted shifters. Shimano Acera and Deore provide front and rear shifting respectively, while Shimano Alivio takes care of the shifting mechanisms on your handlebars. Unfortunately the bike is only 9 speed, which to us seems a little behind the times regardless of pricing. Some elite bikes are already riding 11 speed, so a 10 speed setup would have been a 'no brainer'.

Alex rims add a sparkle to this ride, with a set of 27.5 inch wheels. A pair of German engineered Continental Race King tires will keep you pinning it, in all weather conditions.

The wheels feature Shimano hubs and bearings, as well as stainless steel spokes - reliable and easily serviced after riding in wet conditions.

In the suspension department, Rock Shox have fitted their well known XC30 forks, with 100mm of travel. That's plenty of travel to soak up basic terrain and obstacles. The forks are finished off nicely, with a lockout lever for full suspension deactivation. These forks ride well through rough terrain, as well as appreciably soaking up the smaller less significant impacts.

The usual mix of stem, handlebars and seatpost has been avoided, which is a nice touch! Instead, a full collection of Rocky Mountain branded parts adorns the bike, giving a pro look and reliable performance.

Overall, a well finished bike offering plenty of versatility. We did notice the finishing touch for those wanting more uses for one bike: A set of pannier rack mounts are attached to the frame, allowing you to fit pannier racks or a child seat. Perfect for the avid rider with other commitments!

The Fusion is a good place to start for a new trail rider before riding more advanced trails. It would also suit the average cyclist looking for a decent all-round bike to ride practically anywhere.
