The Giant Defy has been around for some time now and it remains one of the best bikes in the comfort endurance road bike range. The composite model brings a stunning carbon frame into the reach of the recreational road cyclist, it really is a beauty!
The frame itself hardly has a straight tube in it, and although it isn't marketed as "aero" you could be mistaken for thinking so. Giant has used all its manufacturing know-how to build this machine, but has lowered the price by using their entry level grade of carbon fibre.
To ride, it is typically comfortable and balanced like its siblings, with geometry that is easy to get along with and obviously designed for the less "racey" road riders out there. Don't get me wrong, this is still a light bike and it has performance hidden in its sloping geometry for sure.
Giant have added the new SRAM Apex groupset, continuing the trend of speccing a compact double chainring (instead of a triple) that many brands are following. By all reports, the SRAM offering performs superbly and uses the same "Double Tap" technology of the higher end grouppos.
To sum up, Giant has another winner here with the Defy Composite and it would be a great bike for recreational road riders looking for a performance carbon frame bike.
Not all of us can run the stem flush on the top tube a'la Tour de France pro team style. But just because we don't have the flexibility or core strength of the pro riders, doesn't mean we don't enjoy riding and sometimes riding long. The Giant Defy Composite 2 is the perfect bike for someone who needs a slightly less aggressive set up, but still loves getting out for a ride with their friends.
