Strider Sports International, Inc., is the U.S.-based manufacturer of the Strider balance bike. Currently available in three sizes and a panoply of colors, the Strider can be found in bike shops everywhere, and via dealers on six continents.

Founded in 2007 by Ryan McFarland, the Strider was inspired by a personal need: teaching a two-year-old how to ride a bike. Separating propulsion from basic bike handling skills turned out a treat for Ryan's son, and the Strider was born. The company is still quite small, focusing entirely on its flagship product.

The Strider itself is a simple balance bike. Originally inspired by a cut-down kid's 12" bike, its form has been steadily honed; today's model is lightweight, perfectly set for a small rider to keep his feet on the ground, and a smooth operator. Options in color, and stylish, attention-getting accessories from number plates to a polished finish notwithstanding, the basic model is just that, basic; a brand new rider-to-be can get started on it immediately, without fear of falling, or the requirement for any unusual movements.

The 16" and 20" wheeled models hew closely to the original, with greater adjustment possible, and the expectation that these are not just giant two-year-olds. Handbrakes are provided, a taller handlebar, and accommodation for riders from five all the way up to full-grown adult. Color options are many, with fewer accessories.

Strider is providing a solid learning tool for the beginning rider. Check out one of their brightly-colored two-wheeled exercises in enjoyment; your budding young cyclist will thank you.
