Bridgestone Tire is a Japan-based manufacturer of tires for many different kinds of vehicles, from trucks to bicycles. The company's catalogue is extensive, with a large number of choices for cyclists. Bridgestone tires can be found from retailers anywhere in the world.

Started in 1931 by Shojiro Ishibashi, Bridgestone's beginnings were modest; the first tire was made within the facilities of the founder's first company, Fukuoka Prefecture, a clothing company making some rubber-soled shoes. Less than a year after the first tire was produced, production was full on, and Bridgestone Tire was formed, separating the tire business from the clothing business. Some rocky history over the next two decades resulted in a smaller Bridgestone, which changed production from aircraft tires to bicycle tires; this was a fortuitous venture, leading in time to the creation of Bridgestone Cycle Co. Over the next decades, Bridgestone established itself well beyond Japan as a reliable maker of tires, today known and respected world-wide.

Automotive tires are the company's main line. A wide range of tires are available for passenger cars, motorcycles, trucks, and a plethora of special-purpose vehicles, from off-road to Formula One racing. The company also produces tires for subway cars, aircraft, and many more industries.

The bicycle tires are not a large part of Bridgestone's business, but they are a well-respected one. Today's range includes tires for nearly any riding style, with special focus given to road racing; the Extenza line of high-performance slicks can be spotted in races across Asia.

A venerable tire maker, Bridgestone has always produced quality tires. Worth consideration for your next pair, whatever you ride.
